Metal detecting is allowed on Tybee Island's public beach with no permit. Stay out of the dunes and put back any live sand dollar or shell your scoop brings up.
- No permit: nothing in the Tybee Island Code of Ordinances mentions metal detectors, and the beach rules in § 12-1 don't ban detecting or digging
- Walking in the dunes or disturbing sea oats is a § 12-1(a)(8) violation, listed on the city's citation schedule at $300
