Detecting is allowed on the sand at Revere Beach with no DCR permission — sandy beaches are the one carve-out in the state detector rule.
- The sand is the exception, not the rule. 302 CMR 12.04(12) requires DCR permission to use a metal detector anywhere on DCR property — with coastal and inland sandy beaches carved out. Revere Beach is a DCR coastal sandy beach.
- That carve-out stops where the sand does. The seawall, the pavilions, the bandstand lawns and the grass strips along Revere Beach Boulevard are DCR property where you need staff permission, and only to recover lost personal property.
