Headlands Beach State Park

Ohio, Lake·Metal Detecting

Metal detecting is allowed on Headlands Beach's sand without a permit. Fill holes at once, keep to park hours, and stop where the nature preserve begins at the east end.

  • Ohio's state-park rule allows detecting on sand beach areas, and on mowed areas other than campgrounds, rental facilities and golf courses, with no permit (OAC 1501:46-7-08). Anywhere else in the park needs the area manager's written permission
  • Return every hole to as close to undisturbed as possible straight away. The rule makes this a condition of the permission
